I love weddings. I realize there are not many people who dislike them but I really do love them. Delicious food, drinks flowing, great music, and the best part – two people so in love you can see it on their face from a mile away.
As the picture above shows I have been extremely blessed to go to a ton of weddings within the last few years. This is a small portion of the gifts I have received while attending weddings (including my own).
I was a groomsman this past weekend for a great friend of mine who stood by me as I got married earlier this year. We lived together when he and his now wife started dating and it is was incredible to see their relationship go from that point to a marriage.
I can’t believe I am now in the group of my friends who are married. Saturday standing directly in front of me was a friend of mine who got married two years ago almost to the day. I went to his wedding without a date and although I was extremely happy for he and his wife, I was a little bummed out at the same time. He was younger than me and so happily married and I was nowhere near marriage.
Fast forward two years to Saturday and standing directly in front of me was that same friend as a fellow groomsman at the ceremony. When I glanced out in the crowd at my wife sitting there it was surreal. Everything came full circle. We never know how things are going to turn out but I had to take a minute and laugh because two years ago I could have never predicted I would be standing where I was looking at my wife in the crowd.
The most important message I could have told myself before I was married would have been to keep being you. The right person will love you for who you are which is such a relief. You can’t force it. At the right time for both people it will happen though.
Saturday night could not have been a better celebration. I was honored to be a part of it and I hope to attend many more weddings and add to my koozie collection over the next several years.
